ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a methodology for watermarking as a means to content-based indexing and retrieval of 3-D models stored in databases. It reviews new trends in 3-D content-based search and retrieval and in 3-D model watermarking. The chapter describes a novel technique for 3-D model indexing and watermarking, based on a generalized Radon transform. Determining the similarity between 3-D objects is a challenging task in content-based recognition, retrieval, clustering, and classification. Instead, different types of application impose different requirements and call for different watermarking techniques, ranging from slight modifications of existing algorithms to completely innovative methods. The watermarking algorithm is used in order to embed a specific model identifier in the vertices of the model by modifying their location. Experiments were performed using two different databases to test both content-based search and retrieval and watermarking efficiency.
