ABSTRACT

There are thousands of species of venomous or poisonous animals. A venomous animal has a secretory gland where poison is secreted and delivers it during a biting or stinging. A poisonous animal contains poison in its body, and it is unable to deliver it. Naturally occuring toxins may have several toxicity targets, e.g., the nervous system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, etc. (Kingsbury, 1964; Hardin and Arena, 1974; Lampe, 1986; Russell, 1986).
