ABSTRACT

The golden shiner, Notemigonus crysoleucas; goldfish, Carassius auratus; and fathead minnow, Pimephales pro me las, are the three principal species of fish cultured for bait in the United States. Total pond bank value of bait species in Arkansas, the main source of cultured baitfish, was ap­ proximately $38 million in 1998 (Bo Collins, personal communication).
