ABSTRACT
Lipids and their constituent fatty acids, together with the metabolic de rivatives of some of the latter, termed eicosanoids, and other associated compounds, play essential and dynamic roles in the maintenance of opti mum growth, feed efficiency, health (immunocompetence and cardiovascu lar function), kidney and gill function, neural and visual development, reproduction, and flesh quality (market size) of finfish species (reviewed by Higgs and Dong 2000).
