ABSTRACT

Lipids and their constituent fatty acids, together with the metabolic de­ rivatives of some of the latter, termed eicosanoids, and other associated compounds, play essential and dynamic roles in the maintenance of opti­ mum growth, feed efficiency, health (immunocompetence and cardiovascu­ lar function), kidney and gill function, neural and visual development, reproduction, and flesh quality (market size) of finfish species (reviewed by Higgs and Dong 2000).
