These different functions are performed by the diverse cells that compose the organ. Hepatocytes form about 65% of liver cells but are responsible for 80% of the mass since they are larger than the other cells. Nonparenchymal cells (Kupffer, Ito, endothelial, and bile duct cells) form the rest of the organ (3).
