Under physiological conditions, the placenta plays an important role in providing all possible micronutrients to the fetus from the mother. The placental barrier protects the unborn by restricting the passage of many harmful agents, but. unfortunately, it does not limit the transfer of insecticides (organophosphates, carbamates, organochlorines, and pyrethroids).
