ABSTRACT

The face is perceptible in three dimensions, i.e. as a volume. This volume is translated into areas of light and dark. These different zones of light and dark constitute esthetic subunits of the face (Figure 46.1). In volumetric reconstruction, it is imperative to respect these esthetic subunits. When the volume defect is linked to bony and/or muscular defect with functional deficit, it is necessary to start treatment with the correction of these structures. The restoration of volume by transfer of adipose tissue is then the final step.
