ABSTRACT

Atrophy of the lower limb represents a reduction of volume of the member in single or combined tissues: muscular and/or subcutaneous and/or cutaneous. To be didactic, we have classified atrophy of the lower limb into two categories: general atrophy or localized atrophy. General atrophy can occur for various reasons: it can be of congenital or secondary origin in poliomyelitis, iatrogenic, traumatic, or due to an attack to the tibial nerve (internal sciatic popliteal nerve) and/or the external sciatic popliteal nerve, it can be unilateral or bilateral, and it can affect the entirety or part of the lower limb.
