ABSTRACT

Training• (Chapter 3)—Training is the systematic acquisition of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enable people to perform work to a required standard. A systematic approach to training development and delivery requires identification of the training needs, designing the training content and media, delivery of the training, and evaluation of the effectiveness of the training. Thus, it is a cyclical process, with continual revision and refinement with changes in the audience, tasks, and organizational requirements. The basis on which all training depends is identification of the training need from the perspective of the organization (to identify what training is required), the tasks (to identify what knowledge, skills, and attitudes are required), and the person (to identify who requires training). This analysis forms the foundation of all of the subsequent training design processes.
