ABSTRACT
Chapter 6 described the different types of retaining structure that may be used, and Chapters 8 to 11 will consider the calculation of earth pressure and the resistance of these walls. This chapter describes how walls can fail to perform satisfactorily and ways in which the designer can ensure that such failure does not occur.
