ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Advances in software and hardware for personal computers, improved printing and scanning hardware and numerous other technology advances allow for new approaches to be used in analyzing large chemical and polymer manufacturing plants. Specically, these advances allow for complex process ow sheet development, resolution and analysis of complex material and energy balances, and identication of retrot design opportunities. A brief description of macroscopic design approaches that use PC software and hardware, along with other technology, to allow complex analysis of large chemical and polymer plants is provided. Examples of these approaches are illustrated using several polycarbonate monomer
