ABSTRACT

ABST R AC T Industrial sustainability is pursued to achieve the long-term sustainable development of industrial systems. It is experienced that industrial sustainability problems are always difcult to handle, mainly because of system complexity and inherent uncertainties. In usual practice, the uncertainties encountered in Design for Sustainability (DfS) are processed mostly through deriving an agreeable solution by the parties involved. In this paper, we introduce a systematic, fuzzy-logic-based sustainability enhancement methodology that can be used readily for identifying and implementing a sustainability-bearing material-design solution for a given industrial system problem under uncertainties. The methodological efcacy is demonstrated through studying an automotive manufacturing-centered industrial regional problem for its sustainable development.
