ABSTRACT

This chapter will investigate potential models of actual flow conditions to determine aerodynamic characteristics and predict performance. Aerodynamic analysis of an element of an airfoil will be undertaken to predict performance under a variety of flow environments. The Bernoulli equation for a stream tube ahead of the propeller disc between the plane very far in front of the propeller and a plane immediately in front will be derived in terms of axial interference factor, tangential interference factor, drag and lift forces, undisturbed wind speed, drag-to-lift coefficient ratio, and relative wind speed.
