ABSTRACT
The recent success of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems and the initiatives to create a Semantic Web have once more emphasized a key problem in information systems: the lack of semantic interoperability. Semantic interoperability is a crucial element for rendering distributed information systems usable. It is a prerequisite for structured, distributed search and data exchange, and provides the foundations for higher level (Web) services and processing.
