ABSTRACT

The mechanism by which asbestos causes injury is complex and not completely understood, although early studies have suggested in¸ammatory mechanisms may play a contributing role.1,2 With the passage of time, additional information has been published concerning mechanisms of disease. Articles have recently been published showing asbestos is extensively involved in the immune system.3-19 A wide range of nonneoplastic lymphoid lesions occur in the lung.
