ABSTRACT

At this point in the automation machine design process, one might think that the

remaining steps would simply be filling in the details. Find the right size of motor

and be done with it. Let someone else do the dirty work and move on to the next

challenge, but this could not be further from the truth. Finding the right type and

properly sized actuator (a device that produces motion with some force or torque)

will often return a designer to an earlier step in the design process, sometimes all

the way back to the original concept.
