ABSTRACT

Electricity represents a form of energy that occurs due to the flow of electrons. Every atom, which represents a microscopic structure found in all matter, contains one or more electrons that have a negative charge. An electric generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy based on the relationship between magnetism and electricity. The most basic type of turbine is a water-powered device, with water from a dam falling over its edge, causing the blades of a turbine to spin. Power plants use transformers to convert lower-voltage-generated alternating current to very high voltages for transmission. The invention of the telephone resulted in the need to define the relationship between the received power of a signal and its original power. As the power lines reach a particular area where homes or offices are within close proximity, the voltage is further reduced by the use of smaller transformers.
