Applications of Cationic Polymers in Water Treatment

The global market for coagulants and occulants used in water treatment in 2004 was estimated at $2.75 billion dollars annually, with a growth rate of ∼5.5% per year [1]. This includes inorganic and polymeric organic coagulants and occulants. Synthetic cationic polymers (polyelectrolytes) and, to a much lesser degree, naturally occurring cationic polymers constitute approximately 30% of the wastewater treatment market and are used in a wide range of industries and applications.
