ABSTRACT

The method for free-form machining by ball-nose wheels was examined, but grinding by the dead-center point for the rotation at the axis of the wheels was dif‘cult. A higher speed rotation of the rotational axis of the tool was required to solve the problem. This could be achieved by the free-form machining method because the half-sphere wheels have a suitable degree for the axis of the machining tool. Such wheels also widen the machining range. The machining method was named FREEDOM (free dominant machining) method. Figure  6.1 shows the principle.
