ABSTRACT

Similar to the conventional ELID grinding system, ELID curve generator (CG) grinding is essentially composed of the following elements: (a) a cup metal-bonded diamond wheel, (b) an ELID direct current (DC)-pulse power source, (c) a speci‘c grinding ˜uid (which served as an electrolytic agent), and (d) a ‘xed copper electrode. Figure 2.7 shows a schematic diagram of the ELID CG grinding process. The generating mechanism of the spherical surface ground with cup wheels was ‘rst introduced in 1920 by W. Taylor, an English scholar. As shown in Figure 2.7, the workpiece is mounted on a work spindle, and the inclination angle α between the axis of rotation of the workpiece and that of the wheel spindle is properly adjusted.
