ABSTRACT

The term pesticides refers to a broad class of chemicals that are used to kill pests. By itself, the term provides little information other than the intended use of the chemical. Pesticides are often classified on the basis of the types of pests they are used to control, for example insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, acaricides, rodenticides, etc. Within each of these classes, however, there are generally numerous chemicals that have been used (See Table 13.1).
