ABSTRACT
Animal research on drug use and addiction offers the advantages of optimal experimental control, more possibilities for invasive research and of providing relatively simple experimental designs. It is evident, however, that not all questions can be answered by animal studies and that human research is necessary either to test the validity of the animal results or to address specific human-related issues.
