ABSTRACT

In the study of a machine, it is possible to identify three separate fundamental blocks: the motor, the transmission, and the load (Figure  1.1). The motor is the element that is able to transform different types of energy (thermal, hydraulic, Aeolian, nuclear, etc.) into mechanical work. The transmission’s purpose is to connect the motor and the load, and to adapt the provided (by the motor) mechanical power in terms of motion and mechanical actions to the useful mechanical power for the load.
