ABSTRACT

The aforementioned “60-second delay” is not an issue for the auxiliary anti-freeze system. Although not recommended for piped systems exceeding 40 gallons in total volume, antifreeze or “glycerine” loops that supply small systems are quite effective for fire-fighting. The anti-freeze solution used, obviously, protects the piping in the unheated area from freezing. Upon sprinkler-head activation, this solution mixture discharges quickly, followed immediately by the sprinkler system water.
