ABSTRACT

Ovarian cancer remains the most lethal of the gynecological cancers partly because the majority of patients present with advanced disease. A multidisciplinary approach is central to the management of patients with ovarian neoplasms. Expert pathological review is needed in this widely diverse group of often complex neoplasms. Careful case selection and advanced surgical techniques is required for best surgical results. The surgical options have to be managed with the chemotherapy available for optimum outcome for the patients. Imaging is central to this multidisciplinary team. Imaging in conjunction with tumor markers and clinical assessment is used in the detection and characterization of adnexal masses, in the selection of initial treatment options between surgery and/or chemotherapy, and in the subsequent follow-up of these patients.
