ABSTRACT

The forerunner of laparoscopic treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS: Figure 9.1) is ovarian wedge resection by laparotomy. However, ovarian resection, whether performed by laparoscopy or by laparotomy, is associated with periadnexal adhesions and substantial tissue loss. Indeed, instances of premature ovarian failure have been described, rendering the procedure obsolete.
