ABSTRACT

The incidence of ectopic pregnancy has increased sixfold over the past 20 years in the developed countries. It is approximately 19 per 1000 pregnancies, with most cases occurring in the fallopian tube. This can be accounted for by the increase in the incidence of pelvic inflammatory disease and the use of assisted reproductive techniques. The incidence of ectopic pregnancy after in vitro fertilization can be as high as 4%.
