ABSTRACT

Below is a summary of commonly used of data carriers for GS1 traceability and GS1 Methodology of Numbering and Identi cation Systems.

To achieve traceability of foods within supply chains, it is essential to identify the food items concerned and to provide a seamless facility for maintaining identi - cation of those items from source to consumer. Primary and secondary aspects of identi cation are necessary to ensure traceability. Primary identi cation is about identifying the source components whether they are crop-based, sh, or animals. Different techniques are available to determine identi cation at this level and are primarily deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or other molecular-based analytical methods that can be used to identify an individual entity to a reasonable degree of statistical con dence.
