ABSTRACT

In the ¢eld of analytical chemistry, solid phase extraction (SPE) is becoming increasingly adopted for sample preparation. This is partly due to that highly speci¢c adsorbents are continuously being developed, which makes it possible to directly isolate tiny amount of target compounds from complex sample matrices. Another driving force is the demand of decreasing use of organic solvents for environmental concern. SPE is nowadays routinely utilized in the step of sample preparation for target enrichment and clari¢cation to assist analytical quanti¢cation. In addition, SPE based on speci¢c solid adsorbents is also used to remove small amount of impurities from chemical and biochemical synthetic products, where no e⁄cient puri¢cation can be achieved using the conventional methods, e.g., liquid^ liquid extraction [1].
