The results of the tensile lap-shear test obtained on samples made using different additives in the electroplating bath are shown in Table 21.6. Shear strength data show that an additive-free solution produces a more adhesive coating while the additives reduce the shear strength of the coating. It may be that the internal stress level is increased in the electrocopper deposit resulting from possible incorporation of additives into the copper lattice, bringing about a reduction of shear strength.
