ABSTRACT

The decisive add-on value, which allows for setting the cost of product well beyond the cost of unprocessed product, and which cannot be attained by other means, is the key element for selecting LCVD processing. Thus, the decisive add-on value contains significant weight of increasing intangible ‘‘value.’’ For instance, if a biomedical implant cannot be used because of poor biocompatibility, the feature that the surface could be made biocompatible, and any other conventional means could not achieve the same result, gives tremendous add-on value. This also means, in turn, that LCVD should not be tried to improve a product, of which market value is too low to tolerate an additional cost of processing.
