Historically, nails have been subjected to elemental analysis in a variety of applications, including arsenic in forensic investigations (Lander et al. 1965; Pounds et al. 1979) and more recently in environmental (Wilhelm et al. 1991) and occupational estimation of metals exposure (Gerhardson et al. 1995).
