ABSTRACT

From 28 to 30 October 2007, exceptional rainfall fell in the lower Grijalva River basin, generating runoff, which in turn caused floods over an area equivalent to 70% of the Tabasco State territory with water depths of up to 4 m in some areas. According to information from the Tabasco Government and the Mexican Ministry of Interior (Secretaría de Gobernación, 2007), about 1.2 million people were affected and there was extensive material and economic damage. No loss of human life was recorded in the flooded areas in the floodplains.
