ABSTRACT
T HE outcome of the unit processes used to treat wastewater before outfall into a receiving body of water are controlled and determined by wastewater effluent quality parameters. Set by Congress through federal regulation, these parameters are supported and strengthened by state law. To maintain a permit to discharge into natural water systems, facilities must follow regulated programs of testing and reporting to prove their discharge will consistently meet regulatory standards.
