ABSTRACT
This chapter covers the principals of installed fire protection. Traditionally, installed fire protection systems have been considered systems designed for the detection, control, and extinguishment of fires. This limited definition eliminates many other engineering aspects of loss prevention and control. We will consider installed fire protection in two major groupings: passive systems and active systems.
