ABSTRACT

Laser irradiation of scars was first reported in the 1980s using a variety of available laser systems. Results were limited by scar recurrences, which were not unlike those observed after other surgical revision techniques. Since that time, refinements in laser technology as well as advances in laser techniques have enabled dermatologic surgeons to better define which lasers are best used for different types of scars without the adverse sequelae and re currence rates noted with previous surgical treatments and laser systems.
