ABSTRACT

Eddy viscosity models for turbulent flows are often based on the assumption of Kolmogorov energy spectrum. The present work provides a general framework to develop models for flow configurations where this hypothesis does not hold or where additional physical parameters such as compressibility and intermittency must be included. The general formalism permits determination of turbulent models not only for turbulent eddy viscosity but also for turbulent thermal diffusivity. In particular instances, it yields models that agree with those existing in the literature.
