ABSTRACT
Th e International Standards Organization (ISO) recommends the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) 7-Layer Model (Figure 5.1) for interconnection. Th e purpose of this reference model is to provide a common basis for the coordination of standards development for the purpose of systems interconnection, while allowing existing standards to be placed into perspective within the overall reference model. Th is model has become the standard and is published in ISO standard ISO7498.
