ABSTRACT
The identify phase of the update management function establishes the need to deploy the update, but it is still necessary to plan the deployment to minimize any potential impacts to business operations. This is the purpose of the evaluation and plan phase: to create the deployment packages, test them for proper operations and compatibility, schedule them for deployment, and obtain permission to deploy them (Figure 12.1). Tasks in this phase are focused around change management, release management, and acceptance testing.
