ABSTRACT

Up to this point, this book has focused on system management and operation. This chapter is a departure from operations, in the sense that it is not an “operations” task, but is nonetheless tied to the success of the configuration and update management programs. Baseline compliance management is an auditing function designed to evaluate system compliance with internal policies, standards, and procedures. It should not be confused with legal or regulatory compliance, which monitors adherence to external laws, regulations, contractual agreements, and so forth.
