ABSTRACT
The increasing power of digital signal processors and the acceptance of standards such as Bluetooth and 802.11x (WIFI) drive an industry whose mission is to replace, where practical, wired applications and equipment. In this chapter, the focus is on wireless connectivity within a relatively short range (less than a thousand feet), while recognizing that long-range wireless technologies such as satellite, microwave, cellular, and packet cellular continue to evolve and proliferate.
