ABSTRACT

The process and environment for software development are constantly changing as technology advances. Different projects usually utilize different quantified data for their usage in terms of project management, control, and forecast. For an organization that employs software metrics tools in its software development environment, it is not uncommon to have a wide range of software metrics tools available for various projects. Often product managers make the selection of tools based on sources such as previous experience, vendor specifications, input from other groups, etc. As more software metrics tools are acquired, it becomes more important to identify the characteristics common to each tool and to store this information in a repository. The repository is desirable because the comparison can be easily made against various tools in order to select the best set of tools for a particular use.
