ABSTRACT

Experimentally, q-dependence of dielectric functions ε(q, ω) can be determined on gases and solids with inelastic electron scattering or electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) (Bonham and Fink, 1974; Egerton, 1996). For example, Lassettre et al. and Takahashi et al. have made extensive studies about dielectric functions of gaseous water (Lassettre and Skerbele, 1974; Lassettre and White, 1974; Takahashi et al., 2000) and Daniels of solid water and ice (Daniels, 1971). However, because of experimental difŸculties, EELS measurements have never been carried out on volatile liquids like water.
