ABSTRACT

The genus Thielavia in the family Chaetomiaceae consists of 20 recognized species: Thielavia appendiculata, Thielavia arenaria, Thielavia australiensis, Thielavia basicola, Thielavia cephalothecoides, Thielavia coactilis, Thielavia fragilis, Thielavia gigaspora, Thielavia heterothallica, Thielavia hyalocarpa, Thielavia hyrcaniae, Thielavia intermedia, Thielavia microspora, Thielavia minuta, Thielavia ovispora, Thielavia rapa-nuensis, Thielavia subthermophila, Thielavia terrestris, Thielavia terricola, and Thielavia tortuosa as well as three unassigned species (Thielavia sp. 1863, Thielavia sp. B27, and Thielavia sp. MUCL 40242) [1,2]. Of these, Thielavia heterothallica (the ascomycetous teleomorph or perfect state of Myceliophthora thermophila) and Thielavia terrestris are relevant to human infections.
