ABSTRACT

The best-known example of mobile broadcasting is probably the successful transmission of frequency-modulated (FM) radio services. It is possible to find FM radio receivers smaller than a matchbox with batteries that last many hours. The essentials of four modern mobile broadcasting technologies: Terrestrial–Digital Media Broadcasting (T-DMB), Digital Video Broadcasting–Handheld (DVB-H), Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Services (MBMS), and MediaFLO. MBMS is a broadcasting service that can be offered via cellular networks using point-to-multipoint links instead of the usual point-to-point links. Like many other broadcasting systems, digital audio broadcasting and T-DMB use a form of transmission known as orthogonal frequency division multiplex. The DVB-H standard is based on the DVB-T system used for terrestrial digital TV broadcasting. Satellite DMB is a new form of satellite broadcasting system for personal portable receivers or automobile receivers to allow reception of TV, radio, and data broadcasts.
