ABSTRACT
As we noted in Chapter 2, the large size of the IPv6 address allows it to be subdivided into hierarchical routing domains that are supportive of the topology of today’s ubiquitous Internet (IPv4-based Internet lacks this flexibility). Conveniently, the use of 128 bits provides multiple levels of hierarchy and flexibility in designing hierarchical addressing and routing.
