ABSTRACT
While some IT departments believe that Six Sigma can be applied only to manufacturing or engineering processes and that it has little or no relevance to the system development life cycle and the information technology (IT) department in general, Six Sigma does have applicability to software engineering. The techniques for ensuring that customer requirements are understood, that the impact of proposed changes is measured and evaluated, and that the development process is made more reliable will benefit all IT departments.
