ABSTRACT

In investigating the aging phenomenon among middle-to older-aged people active in the workplace, remember that the aging worker has two distinct aspects that work in a negative way, and a synergistic capacity that works in a positive way. When evaluating work ability as a person ages, note that synergistic capacity has a large influence in the workplace, whereas the negative aspects may be minimized depending on the type of job and circumstance involved. General remarks about the aging worker fall into three broad categories:

1. Physiological functions enter decline earlier than mental faculties. A general decline in physiological functions begins in the 30s age bracket, accelerating rapidly in the 40s.
