ABSTRACT

Any theory that attempts to capture more than a fragment of the phenomena associated with the study of human work must overcome the traditional separation between studies of cognition, external behavior, and motivation. An integrative approach that focuses on these aspects of human work is called the theory of activity. With the objectives of integration this entry will discuss major aspects of this theory. In the course of this entry we will discuss the general and systemic-structural activity theories and their role in the study of human work.
