ABSTRACT
While the terms “monitoring” and “assessment” are familiar to people working on watershed management efforts, the words are often used interchangeably and inappropriately. To avoid confusion, we use the following definitions for this discussion:
1. Monitoring consists of collecting data on many characteristics of the waterbody and its watershed according to specific quality assurance and control protocols (see appendix section for more information on quality assurance and quality control).
